Family Travel from Bangkok to Pattaya: Child Seats & Luggage Tips

A trip from Bangkok to Pattaya with children is easy if you settle three things in advance: the child seat, the size of the car and the time of departure. This guide goes through them one by one.
The best transport for a family
With small children a ride that starts at your door and ends at the hotel is worth more than a few hundred baht saved. A private taxi from Bangkok to Pattaya takes you from the hotel to the hotel, with air conditioning and room for the bags, without a change of vehicle or a wait at a terminal. You choose the time, and a short stop for a toddler is not a problem.
A Standard Sedan costs 1,399 THB from Bangkok and 1,199 THB from Suvarnabhumi Airport, a Toyota Innova 1,599 and 1,399 THB. The price is for the car, not per person.
Child seats
Not every taxi in Thailand has a child seat, especially on long routes. We bring one on request, and it is free. Say the age and the approximate weight of the child when you book, and the right seat will be in the car.
- an infant seat for babies and very young children
- a child seat for toddlers and small children
- a booster seat for older children
How big a car to take
Families travel with suitcases, backpacks, a stroller, beach bags and sometimes baby equipment, so count the luggage before the people.
- one adult or two with one child and an ordinary bag: a sedan (3 seats)
- two adults with two children: a Toyota Innova or Fortuner (4 seats)
- a stroller and several suitcases, or five and six people: a Hyundai H1 (6 seats) or a Commuter

When to leave
Children cope better with the road when the car does not stand in traffic. Early morning and late evening are easier than the hours when Bangkok goes home. The road itself is 139 km and takes about 2 hours.

What to take in the car
The drive is short, but a few things make it calmer:
- water and snacks for the children
- wet wipes and tissues
- a light jacket, because the air conditioning feels cold to a child
- a toy or a tablet
- a bag with diapers or baby things within reach
The way back
The same rules apply on the return. A taxi from Pattaya to Bangkok is useful when the children are tired, the bags have grown or you have a flight to catch.
Book both directions at once, ask for a child seat in each, and write the flight number if the return ends at the airport. You pay the driver in cash at the end of the trip. Prepayment is optional and cancellation is free.
